Welcome to Miistro!

We all know first-hand the powerful influence that a music teacher can have in revealing how magical and inspiring music truly is. That said, your involvement and dedication to enriching the lives of students while also being able to run your business more easily is so appreciated and welcomed.

Please read the following details of what being a Miistro teacher looks like. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask us. It is our desire to make your teaching experience as positive as possible.

How it works.

By receiving information from students through our website, we are able to discover what our students want to learn and how they want to learn it. After receiving that information, a Miistro rep will then compare the answers given by the student to our database of teachers. Upon finding the best match in terms of musical goals, scheduling, and location, Miistro will notify the teacher of their potential new student, and, upon receiving confirmation from teacher, will notify the new student of who their teacher is as well as time, location, and other details.

You are your own boss.

One of our main goals at Miistro is to enable you to teach what you teach best in the method that you’re most comfortable with. It is not our desire to change how you teach or place unnecessary restrictions on the educational process. This means that you can teach when and where is best for you.

As well, you are not technically an employee of Miistro, rather you are considered an independent contractor. As such, in terms of payment, Miistro will not deduct CPP, EI, or Income Tax.

Each student who takes lessons through Miistro will pay a standard $25.00 per 30 minute lesson. You, as a teacher, will receive $18.00 of that revenue. From there, $1.00 from every lesson will be donated towards a program encouraging musical education in developing nations, and the remaining $6.00 will be reinvested back into Miistro to pay for administrative costs, marketing, and brand growth.

Miistro will send you an e-transfer for the lessons that are taught at the end of each month

How we can make lessons awesome

We expect all our teachers to carry forward the mission of creating a true and genuine love of playing music to all your students. A wise man once said that you can’t lead where you’re not going, and as teachers leading students, it’s important that you express your passion for music and the impact it can have on the world to them. Whether that means teaching in creative ways, using a student’s interests to teach a musical concept, or even just being super positive and encouraging during the lesson, it is up to you and you alone to help a new generation of aspiring musicians discover how truly amazing music is. We want Miistro to be not only convenient for students, but we want our teachers to be the BEST teachers anywhere.

Dress Code

All teachers are expected to dress professionally at all lessons and in all engagements having to do with Miistro. All male teachers are expected to wear a collared shirt and all female teachers are expected to present themselves similarly. You don’t have to wear a tuxedo to every lesson by any means. We just request that our teachers’ wardrobe reflect their high standards for musicality and education.

In the event that you will be teaching out of your own in-home studio, we request that it be clean and tidy during lessons. We want to ensure that the learning environment is safe, organized, and conducive to the best learning experience for our students.

Many of us grew up with a teacher writing practice material in an old notebook or binder. While we still accept and encourage this practice at Miistro, we also request that every teacher e-mail the practice notes to the student’s parent/guardian.

This ensures that
a) the notes are actually read by the student,
b) the student is accountable to the teacher and parent for practice
c) the teacher has the opportunity to notify the parent of any things they should be aware of.

Our agreement.

You as a teacher are able to teach as many students as you want away from the Miistro. We do, however, require that all students who are sent to you through Miistro stay with Miistro. You don’t have to sign your life away or try to decipher complex legal jargon. We expect that while we attempt to enrich your life as a teacher that you keep your students with us so we can positively impact the lives of other students and teachers around the world.
